{"id":140203,"date":"2016-08-30T09:34:44","date_gmt":"2016-08-30T08:34:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.recom.link\/kosovo-president-missing-persons-grave-wound-2\/"},"modified":"2020-05-02T12:06:14","modified_gmt":"2020-05-02T11:06:14","slug":"kosovo-president-missing-persons-grave-wound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.recom.link\/sl\/kosovo-president-missing-persons-grave-wound\/","title":{"rendered":"Kosovo President: Missing Persons are a \u2018Grave Wound\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kosovo president Hashim Thaci said on Monday that missing persons remain one of the gravest wounds that the war in Kosovo inflicted.<\/p>\n<p>Resolving of the fate of the missing is one of the most urgent tasks facing the country, Thaci said on the eve of the International Day of the Disappeared which is marked on August 30 each year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe war has left many wounds, but the one of the missing is one of the most severe,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The issue \u201cburdens the families of the missing persons but also the whole of society, relations between the communities and the chances of a better future\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Thaci said that Kosovo officials and the general public was reminded about the missing on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey look at us from the pictures hanging on the fence of the Kosovo Assembly. Families call us. We are being reminded [of them] by the memorials we see on the streets of Kosovo. And, on days like August 30, we commit ourselves to always, without pause, asking and insisting on clear ingup the fate of every citizen of Kosovo as soon as possible, for the families of the missing to find their peace,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>Human rights activists in Kosovo said meanwhile that the government and state institutions need to do more to resolve the fate of those who are still missing, both Albanians and Serbs.<\/p>\n<table class=\"photocaption\" border=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.balkaninsight.com\/en\/file\/show\/\/Images\/Balkan%20Transitional%20Justice\/YIHR,%20missing%20persons.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"480\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Shoes and a letter sent to Kosovo&#8217;s prime minister. Photo: YIHR<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The Pristina-based Youth Initiative for Human Rights, YIHR, sent a box of shoes symbolising the missing to Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa on Monday with a letter saying it was \u201cworried about [official] negligence towards missing persons\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough 17 years have passed since the war in Kosovo and eight since the declaration of independence, our country didn\u2019t set this as a priority, leaving the families of the missing to wander about different grave locations hoping they will hear some news about their loved ones,\u201d the YIHR said in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>The YIHR also said that the issue of the missing should be included in Kosovo\u2019s ongoing EU-mediated dialogue with Serbia, and that school textbooks should have more substantial and accurate information about what happened during the war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTextbooks approved by the government of Kosovo have very little information about these events, while the narratives are exclusionary and don\u2019t offer the full picture about events from the past,\u201d the YIHR said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t learn about our peers &#8211; Albanians, Serbs, Bosniaks, Roma\u2026 who are also still listed as missing,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Published on<a href=\"http:\/\/www.balkaninsight.com\/en\/article\/kosovo-missing-gravest-wound-of-1990s-war-08-29-2016?utm_medium=twitter&amp;utm_source=twitterfeed\"> BIRN, 29.08.2016.<\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Kosovo president Hashim Thaci said on Monday that missing persons remain one of the gravest wounds that the war in&#8230; ","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":181029,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[2061],"tags":[2256,1951,1976,2007],"class_list":["post-140203","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sve-vesti-sl","tag-birn-sl","tag-hashim-tachi-sl","tag-missing-persons-sl","tag-transitional-justice-sl"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.6 -
