{"id":146724,"date":"2019-04-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-14T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/newRecom\/berlin-process-ministerial-meeting-in-warsaw-participants-welcomed-a-briefing-by-the-european-commission-on-way-ahead-with-regard-to-recom\/"},"modified":"2020-04-30T22:57:47","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T21:57:47","slug":"berlin-process-ministerial-meeting-in-warsaw-participants-welcomed-a-briefing-by-the-european-commission-on-way-ahead-with-regard-to-recom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.recom.link\/en\/berlin-process-ministerial-meeting-in-warsaw-participants-welcomed-a-briefing-by-the-european-commission-on-way-ahead-with-regard-to-recom\/","title":{"rendered":"Berlin Process Ministerial Meeting in Warsaw: Participants welcomed a briefing by the European Commission on way ahead with regard to RECOM"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Participants of the\nBerlin Process Ministerial Meeting held in Warsaw underlined their commitment\nto reconciliation and welcomed a briefing by the European Commission on way\nahead with regard to <strong>RECOM<\/strong> (Regional\nCommission Tasked with Establishing the Facts about All Victims of War Crimes\nand Other Serious Human Rights Violations Committed on the Territory of the\nFormer Yugoslavia from 1 January 1991 to 31 December 2001).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the framework of the\nBerlin Process Presidency, the Republic of Poland welcomed in Warsaw on 11-12\nApril 2019 Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Berlin Process, the Presidency\nin the Council of the European Union, as well as representatives of the\nEuropean Commission, the European External Action Service to discuss regional\ncooperation and the progress on outstanding bilateral issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the meeting in Warsaw, Director-General for Neighbourhood\nand Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission Christian Danielsson\nunderlined that over the last ten years, there been\na significant amount of discussion about an approach to dealing with the past\nwith the active involvement of governments and civil society through victim\nassociations, such as the <strong>Initiative for\nRECOM.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;We stand ready to support such actions &#8211; actions that\ncome from the region and for the region. We have asked an ex-Director General\nof the Commission Pierre Mirel to reach out to you to see how you can best\nbuild consensus on a way forward&#8221;, he said.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Danielsson concluded\nthat the EU agenda is &#8220;an agenda for peace and for building a common\nfuture&#8221;, noting that good neighbourly relations cannot be imposed from the\noutside, as they require a political commitment from leaders and ownership from\nthe concerned countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants\nunanimously reaffirmed their unequivocal support for the European perspective\nof the Western Balkans and noted the role of the February 2018 Commission\u2019s\nstrategy and the flagship initiative <em>\u201cSupporting\nreconciliation and good neighbourly relations\u201d <\/em>in finding and implementing\ndefinitive, inclusive and binding solutions for bilateral disputes in the\nWestern Balkans rooted in the legacy of the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They underlined their\ncommitment to reconciliation and welcomed a briefing by the Commission on way\nahead with regard to <strong>RECOM<\/strong>.\nParticipants agreed that the region needs to renew its commitment to building a\nstrong historical record resilient to revisionism.
