At last year\u2019s ceremony commemorating the 20th<\/sup> anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the Mothers of Srebrenica staged a warm welcome for the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107, and even took the opportunity to pin the Flower of Srebrenica to his lapel.\u00a0 Only \u00a0one year later, in an open letter addressed to the same Serbian Prime Minister, the Mothers of Srebrenica state that \u201cthose who deny the genocide in Srebrenica are not welcome in Poto\u010dari on July 11th<\/sup>\u201d.\u00a0 The letter goes on to state: \u201cThat July 11th<\/sup> of 2015 should have been our day, and you stole it from us.\u00a0 We will not allow the events of the past year to take place again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mothers who buried their sons need an honest, sympathetic hand-shake, they need to feel that \u201cthose others\u201d truly regret that their sons\u2019 lives have been lost.\u00a0 It was in this spirit that Munira Suba\u0161i\u0107 chose to meet with Prime Minister Vu\u010di\u0107 last year. And she was the first to apologize for the attack on him, since he was a guest there.\u00a0 Then comes the matter of \u00a0acknowledging the genocide, with \u00a0the issue of acquittals.\u00a0 One \u00a0needs first to expose the fraud orchestrated by Serbian politicians, this lie that the acknowledgment of genocide somehow implies that the Serbian people are genocidal by nature.\u00a0 The pressure on the politicians in Serbia and Republika Srpska to acknowledge that genocide took place in Srebrenica needs to be applied by the civil society, \u00a0persistently and with the effective presentation of the court-established facts.\u00a0 At the same time, the Mothers of Srebrenica need to stop claiming to speak for the dead and to disengage from politics altogether, and instead dedicate themselves to further development of the memorial center in Poto\u010dari.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
