{"id":136689,"date":"2015-12-21T14:36:56","date_gmt":"2015-12-21T13:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.recom.link\/dijalog-kosovo-srbija-samo-medu-politicarima-2\/"},"modified":"2015-12-23T14:48:57","modified_gmt":"2015-12-23T13:48:57","slug":"dijalog-kosovo-srbija-samo-medu-politicarima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.recom.link\/en\/dijalog-kosovo-srbija-samo-medu-politicarima\/","title":{"rendered":"Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue \u2018Only Among Politicians\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"lead\">\n<p><em>Political leaders from Kosovo and Serbia might be talking to each other in Brussels, but the two societies are not communicating at all, a debate in Pristina heard.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.recom.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Debat-in-Pristina-on-reconciliation-organised-by-HLC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-136681\" src=\"http:\/\/www.recom.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Debat-in-Pristina-on-reconciliation-organised-by-HLC-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"U\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.recom.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Debat-in-Pristina-on-reconciliation-organised-by-HLC-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.recom.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Debat-in-Pristina-on-reconciliation-organised-by-HLC.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"author\"><strong>Petrit Collaku, Antigona Shaipi<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"source\">BIRN, <span class=\"location\">Pristina<\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"source\"><\/div>\n<p>Petar Miletic, a former member of the Kosovo parliament\u2019s presidency, told the debate on reconciliation in Pristina on Monday that the current EU-brokered talks between Kosovo and Serbia were only a conversation between officials, in which ordinary people are not involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe dialogue in Brussels between Kosovo and Serbia is not a dialogue between two societies, but a dialogue between two governments,\u201d said Miletic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no dialogue between Albanians and Serbs but there is a dialogue between [Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar] Vucic and [Kosovo Prime Minister Isa] Mustafa,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>This means that ordinary people do not feel any benefit from the Brussels talks aimed at normalising relations, he argued.<\/p>\n<p>Ardian Arifaj, an advisor to Kosovo\u2019s Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci, said that a different kind of honest dialogue was essential for reconciliation between the two societies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not happening, but there is a need to change the narratives that caused the wars and brought about hostilities, which are obstructing authentic reconciliation among the people of the Balkans,\u201d Arifaj said.<\/p>\n<p>Kosovo\u2019s former Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj, a university professor, said that the reconciliation between Kosovo and Serbia is still a long way off.<\/p>\n<p>Hoxhaj said that Serbia is continuing to hamper Kosovo\u2019s integration into international institutions, citing Pristina\u2019s recent failure to become a UNESCO member, which he said was undermined by Belgrade.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that Serbia would have to recognise Kosovo\u2019s independence in order for reconciliation to be possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [EU-backed] dialogue for normalisation can serve reconciliation and the aim should be that mutual diplomatic recognition between these two countries is reached,\u201d Hoxhaj said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Zarko Puhovski, a professor and political analyst from Zagreb, said that old foes should find the courage start sharing the responsibility for what happened during the wars.<\/p>\n<p>However he argued that wartime politicians could be unable to lead reconciliation processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor peace, there is a need for different people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The debate on reconciliation was organised by the Humanitarian Law Centre\u2019s office in Pristina after similar discussions were held in Skopje, Belgrade and Banja Luka.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.balkaninsight.com\/en\/article\/ex-yugoslav-troubled-societies-far-from-reconciliation-12-21-2015\" target=\"_blank\">21.12.2015.<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Political leaders from Kosovo and Serbia might be talking to each other in Brussels, but the two societies are not&#8230; ","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":136681,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[637],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-136689","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-recom-in-the-media"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.6 -
