The Coalition for RECOM offers an internship opportunity in its Belgrade office for spring 2016. Ideally, the internship would be for three months.

We are looking for a candidate interested in researching Transitional Justice, especially as regards the RECOM Initiative for establishing a regional commission for war crimes and other serious violations of human rights during the wars in the ‘nineties. The intern will need primarily to focus on the researching and archiving of the RECOM process, mostly video materials. We will also need a hand in our ongoing online campaign for collecting signatures of support for establishing RECOM.

Basic knowledge of the Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian languages and computer skills are required. A B.A. level of education and a strong interest in human rights are highly recommended. Experience with online platforms (Word Press, Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, etc.) are a huge asset.

The candidate is strongly encouraged to conduct their own research into some of the numerous aspects of Transitional Justice in the region; and the RECOM Belgrade team would support research with contacts and briefings. We provide an inspiring working space in the beautiful library of the Humanitarian Law Center in Belgrade, and cover the costs of city transportation expenses and one daily snack.

RECOM is the regional commission for the establishment of facts about war crimes and other serious violations of human rights committed in the former Yugoslavia between January 1, 1991 and December 31, 2001. The Initiative for RECOM advocates for the establishment of RECOM. The RECOM Process was launched by a debate on instruments for truth-telling and for disclosure of the truth about the past, back in May 2006. The subsequent consultative process was the biggest civil debate and initiative ever organized in the region of Former Yugoslavia. The Coalition for RECOM to date consists of more than 2000 organizations from all regional states.

More about the RECOM process, as well as about Transitional Justice, can be found on the website of the Coalition for RECOM, www.RECOM.link, and on social networks (@REKOM_KOMRA, ZaREKOM.PerKOMRA.ForRECOM)

The deadline for the spring semester is February 7. Applicants should send a letter of interest describing the personal objectives of their internship and how it would fit within their further career plans; a detailed CV with a list of researches already conducted and publications (if any); and contact information for one referee. Please apply to administrator@RECOM.link, with email subject “Internship-Spring 2016”, and indicate the dates of availability for internship. We will notify the selected intern by February 15.
